Coronavirus Australia live: Victoria, Qld, NSW COVID-19 updates - NEWS.com.au

The rowdy crowd was filmed at Melbourne’s St Kilda beach late Friday afternoon as the city embraced its warmest weather in months.

7 News reporter Paul Dowsley was surrounded by hundreds of people, with one woman kissing the camera lens and leaving a lip-shaped smudge on the glass for the rest of his livecross.

A number of Melburnians also gave the rude finger to the camera as one man grabbed Mr Dowsley on the shoulders and planted a kiss on his cheek.

Some praised the Melbourne locals for getting out and enjoying the sunshine however the video hasn’t gone down well with most – including Victoria’s chief health officer Dr Brett Sutton.

“Don’t risk everything. What we can hold back now means a truly normal summer. Please – Hold. The. Line,” Dr Sutton wrote, retweeting the footage.

The premier announced Melbourne would be moving to the second step of Victoria’s COVID normal plan on September 27.

The move to the second step meant Melbourne’s curfew was dropped and groups of up to five, from a maximum of two households, were allowed to meet outdoors.

Wearing a mask outside remains mandatory however the footage taken at St Kilda showed a number of people not wearing a face covering.

The 5km rule, which prohibits people from travelling further than 5km from their home to exercise or visit people, also still applies.

Queensland's Health Minister Steven Miles has been lashed for making a joke about Donald Trump and disinfectant after the president tested positive for coronavirus.

Mr Trump seemed to suggest earlier this year that injecting bleach or a disinfectant might have an effect on coronavirus.

But Mr Miles making a joke about the suggestion didn't sit well with his followers, who labelled it "tasteless" and "offensive".

“From a health minister this is disgusting,” one follower added.

After months of playing down its significance, refusing to wear a mask and holding large campaign rallies as the coronavirus spreads across the United States, US President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19.

Here are some of Trump’s most notable and colourful statements on the illness.

  • “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.” Trump in January at the start of the pandemic.
  • “It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle – it will disappear.” Trump still publicly upbeat in February.
  • “I’d rate it a 10.” Trump gives himself top marks for his response to the virus in March.
  • “I just don’t want to be doing – somehow sitting in the Oval Office behind that beautiful Resolute Desk, the great Resolute Desk, I think wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens, I don’t know, somehow I don’t see it for myself. I just don’t. Maybe I’ll change my mind.” Trump tells the world in April he doesn’t like wearing face masks.
  • “Then I see the disinfectant which knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside for almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that.” Trump floats an unscientific cure in April.
  • “So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said, that hasn’t been checked but you’re gonna test it. And then I said, supposing it brought the light inside the body, which you can either do either through the skin or some other way.” Trump suggests another untested theory in April.
  • “I think that the World Health Organization should be ashamed of themselves, because they’re like the public relations agency for China.” Attacking the WHO and China in April.
  • “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Trump reveals he and Melania have tested positive in October.

US Vice President Mike Pence has tested negative for coronavirus, hours after Donald Trump tested positive.

Mr Pence's press secretary Devin O'Malley revealed the VP gets tested every day and wished Mr Trump well.

Hundreds of Melburnians have flocked to the city's beaches as Victoria tentatively moves to "COVID normal" again.

Australians have spent much of 2020 adapting to an ever changing set of rules and restrictions, in an attempt to stem the spread of coronavirus.

Our exercise regimes, our travel plans, our dining habits, and even our romantic endeavours have been guided since March by health advice, often with different caveats depending on the state and territory where you live.

It goes without saying that as the year’s worn on, some regulations have been received better than others – though it’s not just the more controversial rules that have made us question the status quo.

From “vertical consumption” in SA to “designated dancers” in NSW, these are some of the bizarre COVID-19 restrictions that amuse and baffle even the best of us.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has joined a number of other leaders in sending a message of support to US President Donald Trump, who this afternoon tested positive to COVID-19.

A spokeswoman for Mr Morrison told The Sydney Morning Herald that he "has sent a private message to the president wishing him a speedy and full recovery".

Mr Morrison's UK counterpart, Boris Johnson – who himself had a near-death experience with COVID-19 – also tweeted out a message of support to the US leader.

"My best wishes to President Trump and the First Lady," Mr Johnson said.

"Hope they both have a speedy recovery from coronavirus."
