One case of COVID transmission linked to Berala cluster in Sydney - ABC News

New South Wales has recorded one locally acquired Coronavirus case in the latest reporting period.

More than 25,000 tests were conducted across the state in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the case is linked to the Berala cluster in Western Sydney.

There are now 21 cases linked to this cluster.

Ms Berejiklian thanked residents of the northern beaches, who are about to see their lockdown lifted, for their patience and compliance.

She warned NSW residents to stay vigilant, with the so-called UK strain now evident in 30 countries around the world.

"We have to assume that this strain will become the dominant strain and it is important to keep re-assessing our settings, keep staying vigilant and for the immediate future keep wearing our masks in those indoor settings," she said.

Another five COVID cases were found in returned travellers, and 25,646 tests reported to 8:00pm last night.

NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the state was now handling quarantine cases among overseas travellers differently.

"Now we will be ensuring that anyone won't be released from isolation until at least 14 days after symptom onset and they will also have a PCR test (at the) end of the isolation period," she said.

More to come.
