Sydney man shot dead in 'violent attack' at Fairfield was known to police - ABC News

A 34-year-old man has died at Fairfield, in Sydney's south-west, in what police say was a "violent" targeted shooting.

Emergency crews were called to a laneway in William Street at 3:00am, where they found the man with several gunshot wounds.

The man, who was known to police, could not be revived and died at the scene.

Detective Acting Superintendent, Glen Fitzgerald, said police were trying to determine a motive.

"We believe the attack to be targeted," he said.

"This is a violent attack on a suburban street and is totally unacceptable behaviour.

"Currently Fairfield detectives and homicide squad are investigating. At the moment — the investigation — it's early stages."

Fairfield Police and the homicide squad are doorknocking in the area.

Detective Fitzgerald has appealed to the public to help with any information.
