COVID live updates: Wednesday, April 7 - ABC News

WA reopening border to Queensland

Queenslanders can now enter Western Australia, following a third straight day of no locally-acquired COVID cases.

Travellers from Queensland will still need to self-quarantine and present for testing on the 11th day of their isolation, but can now enter WA without an exemption from police.

Late yesterday, Health Minister Roger Cook said Queensland would be re-classified as a low-risk jurisdiction under WA's controlled border policy from 12:01am on Wednesday.

Queensland was declared a medium-risk state on March 27, following a COVID outbreak linked to a nurse at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

"Since then Queensland authorities have done an excellent job to contain the virus," Mr Cook said.

"So it is pleasing that we can now act on the latest health advice to change the risk rating to low."

All arrivals coming into WA from a low-risk jurisdiction through Perth airport and the state's land borders are required to undergo a health screening and complete a G2G app pass.

However, WA, which has one of the strictest border controls in Australia under Premier Mark McGowan's government, has reserved the right to continue to change their border position at any time in regard to further outbreaks across Australia.

"We will continue to act in the interests of all West Australians to ensure our state remains as safe as possible," Mr Cook said.
