Hotspots in Greater Brisbane, the Gladstone region in Queensland and Byron Shire in New South Wales are now designated green zones under Victoria’s ‘traffic light’ travel permit system.
But the welcome downgrade – at the start of the second week of Victoria’s school holidays – coincided with the announcement of two new cases of COVID-19 in hotel quarantine, less than a week after international flights and the state’s revamped quarantine program resumed.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said that as of midnight on Sunday areas of Greater Brisbane, including the City of Brisbane, City of Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay Region and Redlands City, would change from an orange zone to a green zone.
The change means that every location in Australia and New Zealand is now a green zone for the purpose of entering Victoria.
Health authorities still require arrivals from green zones to obtain a permit to enter Victoria, saying the information provided supports the speed of Victoria’s response should the public health situation in any location change.
“The Chief Health Officer will continue monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as needed,” the health department said.
Before the downgrade, people entering Victoria from areas designated orange zones in NSW or Queensland needed to get tested and isolate until they received a negative result.

The Victorian government administered 903 vaccines and authorities received 9503 test results. It brings the total number of vaccines administered by Victorian authorities to 144,320.
