A staff member at a Queensland private school has tested positive to coronavirus.
Queensland Health confirmed an employee at Park Ridge’s Parklands Christian College in Logan returned a positive test Tuesday afternoon.
The school will be closed on Wednesday to allow cleaning and contact tracing.
The female staffer is understood to have recently returned from travelling interstate.
“The woman, who is under isolation, tested positive late yesterday after returning from interstate last week,” Queensland Health said in a statement.
“The school will temporarily close until further notification to allow for cleaning and the work will commence on contact tracing.”
A Queensland Health letter to students, staff and parents has been sent out directing those feeling unwell to “isolate immediately” and see a doctor for an urgent assessment.
“If you (or) your child or any family member is unwell, isolate immediately and avoid contact with others,” the letter reads.
“If you or your child develop symptoms of COVID-19, you should arrange to consult a doctor or attend a hospital fever clinic for urgent assessment and testing.
“Please contact your doctor before arriving and inform them of your symptoms.
“Please be assured that the occurrence of COVID-19 does not reflect negatively on Parklands Christian College or the person, as anyone can contract this infection.”
A COVID-19 test clinic will be set up at the school’s Baskerville Sports Centre Wednesday afternoon for members of the school community.
The college’s student population is made up of about 650 students aged from Prep to Year 12.
The positive diagnosis brings the number of active cases in Queensland to six.
