Coronavirus: NSW records 14 new cases of COVID-19 - NEWS.com.au

Another 14 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in New South Wales, chief medical officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed Tuesday morning.

Of the new cases, six are linked to the funeral cluster in Sydney’s west, four are associated with Thai Rock in Wetherill Park and the other is linked to Thai Rock in Potts Point.

Dr Chant said a staff member at The Apollo in Potts Point also tested positive, while another case acquired the infection in Victoria and is self isolating in NSW.

The last case is a returned traveller in hotel quarantine.

Anyone who attended The Apollo from July 23 to July 25 must quarantine for 14 days, Dr Chant urged.

Any diners who develop symptoms should be tested.

Dr Chant is also urging people who live in or have visited the Potts Point area in the past two weeks to get tested if they develop any symptoms.

The advice comes after confirmation a staff member at The Apollo had tested positive. The venue has been closed for cleaning.

Meanwhile, anyone who attended Mounties in Mount Pritchard on July 23 between midnight and 3am, on July 24 between 11am and 3pm or 8pm to midnight, and on July 25 between midnight and 3am must isolate for 14 days.

NSW Health is also urging anyone who attended the bistro area at Pritchard’s Hotel on July 23 between 7pm to 7.45pm to get tested if they have any symptoms of COVID-19.

There are now 75 cases associated with Thai Rock Wetherill Park, 56 cases linked to the Crossroads Hotel cluster, eight cases associated with Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, and 15 with the funerals.

Another three are linked to Thai Rock at Potts Point.

On Tuesday morning NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian told Sunrise she was “absolutely convinced” there were people in the state infected with COVID-19 who didn’t know they had it.

On Monday, NSW recorded another 17 new cases of coronavirus. Of those, eight were returned travellers in hotel quarantine and the other nine were locally acquired.

Eight were linked to known outbreaks and one, a man in his 40s from southwest Sydney, is under investigation.

Speaking to the panel on Sunrise, the Premier said she was “extremely concerned” about every new case because she knew “it doesn’t take much to have this thing take off.”

“Whenever any of us are out and about we need to assume that we have it or that somebody else has it,” she said.

“Don’t assume you have the cold or the flu, assume it’s the virus and act accordingly.”

Dr Chant said NSW Health was calling on people across the state to redouble their efforts to stop the virus spreading.

Measures include avoiding non-essential travel and gatherings, with the health department concerned about potential transmission at venues such as hotels, restaurants and gyms.

“Don’t go to the gym unless the equipment is thoroughly cleaned before and after customer use by supervising staff or yourself, and there is good spacing between machines and customers,” Dr Chant said.

“Consider using a mask in situations where you are unable to social distance, particularly indoors.”
