There are growing concerns for residents stranded on the Blue Mountains side of the Hawkesbury River, whose supplies are dwindling after days of being isolated by floodwaters.
Towns such as North Richmond, Freeman’s Reach and Wilberforce are in need of bread, milk, nappies are other essentials.
Road and bridge closures have seen supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths unable to restock their shelves.
Local Federal MP Susan Templeman said there are discussions underway about using Australian Defence Force and RAAF personnel to airlift or boat in supplies.
“There’s real concern about the availability of fresh food across the river,” Ms Templeman told The Daily Telegraph.
In the nearby Colo area, emergency services are working to evacuate about 500 people as the Colo River rises rapidly. About 200 homes are affected in mostly remote areas.

Emergency services have deployed helicopters and rescue boats this morning to evacuate stranded residents around the Upper Colo River in NSW Hawkesbury region.
NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York said the rain showed no sign of stopping today, with several areas across the state raising concerns.
The Colo River was issued with an evacuation warning overnight, with residents in all properties along and adjacent to the Colo River, including Wheeny Creek, told to evacuate by 8am today.
“There are 200 homes already isolated and access is difficult,” Ms York said.
“Access is very difficult in those remote areas so we will have rescue boats and helicopters going in to assist those people.”

The SES has warned about major flooding of the Hawkesbury River at North Richmond.
The banks of the river have swelled and are now impacting caravan parks near the water.

The head of the Port Macquarie-Hastings SES said the Mid-North Coast flooding is the largest he, and many others, have seen in their lifetimes.
Commander Michael Ward said the size, scale and magnitude of the rain and recent flooding is like no other he has seen.
“I don’t have the numbers on the magnitude of the event, but I do know it is probably the largest one that most people would have seen in their lifetime,” he said.
“I do know that it is probably the largest that I have seen from a flooding perspective in the Port Macquarie area.
Agencies are working “24 hours a day” to battle the crisis unfolding across the region which have now left the people of Comboyne without access to clean running water.
