WA tourism group criticises the federal government airfare plan
Western Australia's Tourism Council has slammed the Federal Government's $1.2 billion dollar tourism package that will see the cost of domestic airfares slashed to help struggling industries.
The tourism package will involve half-price flights to - and from - 13 regions, between April and July.
The discounted airfares only apply to one WA destination, Broome, compared with five locations in Queensland and three in Tasmania.
Tourism Council CEO Evan Hall says it's a devastating blow for WA tourism businesses.
"Not only is there going to be no replacement assistance at the end of JobKeeper, but a lot of the interstate visitors that they are hoping to get to be able to recover, are now going to be heading off to Queensland or Tasmania instead of Western Australia using these discounted flights," Mr Hall said.
