COVID live updates: Victoria braces for more coronavirus cases on second day of lockdown restrictions - ABC News

People at the back of the line told 'no more bookings today'

John* has been waiting in line for a COVID vaccine at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, in inner Melbourne.

He called ABC Radio Melbourne with an update from the line at about 9:15am:

"The person that's running it, and now a senior person or much higher person, have come out, and walked down to Rathdowne Street on the premise that they're going to tell people down there 'no more bookings today'."

John has also asked whether people who have been waiting in the queue for hours already would be guaranteed a spot tomorrow morning, if they went home today and booked for tomorrow instead.

He said the answer was no.

"In fact [we were] told to queue up again tomorrow," he said.

At about 9:30am, St Vincent's Hospital, which runs the Exhibition Building vaccination centre, said due to technical difficulties the hubs are only accepting bookings and no walk-ins.

It urged people to make a booking before getting vaccinated.
