Sydney man arrested after puppy allegedly set on fire - NEWS.com.au

A six-month-old puppy has been tragically put down after it was allegedly deliberately set on fire.

Emergency services were called to a unit in Sydney’s southwest just after 3.20am on Friday.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused significant damage to the unit.

But when fire crew searched the property they found the six-month-old puppy in a cage on the balcony.

NSW Police said the puppy, believed to be a staffy, had suffered severe burns after allegedly being set alight.

“The puppy was subsequently humanely euthanised by police,” they said.

The occupant, a 39-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Liverpool police station for questioning.

Police said a crime scene had been established as they continue to investigate the incident.

Neighbours managed to evacuate before emergency services arrived and there were no reports of further injuries.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
