Police in Melbourne are investigating a serious crash in Southbank in which it is understood a group of five pedestrians was hit by a truck.

Investigators say they have been told a truck left the road near the intersection of City Road and Power Street about 7:00pm on Thursday night and collided with a traffic light and a group of pedestrians.
It is believed the truck, possibly a tanker, left the accident scene via Power Street.
The pedestrians, believed to be four men and a woman and all aged in their 20 and 30s, have been taken to hospital.
Two men have suffered critical injuries.
"At this stage there is not thought to be any threat to the community and police are working to ascertain the identity of the driver," Victoria Police said in a statement.
Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or who has dashcam footage to come forward.

Two men, believed to be in their 20s, were taken to the Alfred Hospital with lower body injuries. One was in a critical condition, the other was serious but stable.

One was in a critical condition and the other two were in a serious but stable condition, Ambulance Victoria said in a statement.
