Footage has emerged of a feral brawl between spectators at a Brisbane junior rugby league match that left a dad needing surgery.
The violence erupted between spectators at an Under-13s Division 1 game between Wynnum Manly and Logan Brothers at Kitchener Park on Sunday morning.
Ugly scenes revealed in video footage show adult spectators spilling onto the playing field fighting each other.
Punches were thrown and one man was kicked during the brawl, while others jumped the fence to get in close to the action.
Father Josh Jones was injured in the scuffle and had to be taken to hospital for facial injuries.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for his surgery and medical costs.
“Josh was ready to commence with a new job on Tuesday, but now has no idea when he will be able to start,” organiser Debbie Saint wrote.
“Looking to raise funds to take the immediate financial pressure off this family, while they heal physically and emotionally.”
A Queensland Police media spokesman said a fight believed to be between two spectators erupted about 11.30am.
He said a male victim was pushed down a set of stairs and while he was falling, he also knocked a woman to the ground.
No charges have been laid.
Queensland Ambulance Service said a man was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a stable condition for facial injuries.
A woman was also assessed to be in a stable condition but declined transport to hospital.
A third person was also assessed.
The Wynnum Manly Junior Rugby League Football Club said its board and staff were co-operating with Queensland Police and Rugby League Brisbane as part of investigations.
“We are unable to comment on the events that occurred because the matter is now a criminal investigation,” the club said in a Facebook post on Monday.
“We do not want to hamper the ongoing investigation.”
The club said it was organising support for people affected by the incident.
Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
