Ellenbrook girl, 7, sexually assaulted in her home on Boxing Day night, sparking WA Police appeal - ABC News

WA Police are appealing for information from the public after a 7-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at her home in Perth's north-eastern suburbs.

Police say the girl went to bed as normal on Boxing Day night at her home in Ellenbrook, about 30 kilometres north-east of Perth's CBD.

She disclosed to her parents the following morning that she had been sexually assaulted during the night.

Forensics officers, along with mounted police and drone operators, are searching for a window flyscreen and a pyjama top that are missing from the house.

Inspector Hamish McKenzie from the Sex Crime Division said the time window in which the assault could have occurred was large.

The girl went to bed at about 8:00pm and got up at about 9:00am, when she informed her father of the incident.

Inspector McKenzie would not comment on how police believe the suspect entered the house, saying it would form part of the investigation.

He said the only detail they could confirm about the suspect was that he was male, but that an identikit may be made available later on.

The girl has spoken to a specialist child interviewer and been examined in hospital, where she remained with her family this afternoon.

'Heinous crime', police say

Inspector McKenzie said police were committed to solving the case.

"The family went to bed as normal on a hot summer night on Boxing Day evening, as many families in Perth would have done, and this is just an utterly traumatic incident that’s occurred to them," he said.

The search area in Ellenbrook is bounded by Tonkin Highway, The Broadway and The Promenade.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad are investigating.

Anyone who has information, including dashcam or CCTV vision from the area between Sunday night and Monday morning, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
