Swarms of protesters have taken to Melbourne’s streets on Saturday demonstrating against vaccine mandates and chanting "sack Dan Andrews" while other Australian cities get ready for more unrest.

Noisy crowds -numbered in the thousands by the Herald Sun- had collected on the street outside Victoria’s state parliament by midday causing traffic problems in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police attempted to control traffic after the protesters spilled onto the road with officers guarding the steps of parliament.

The crowd then began walking toward Bourke Street Mall at around 1pm.

Anger toward the Victorian Premier is clear as crowds periodically launch into a chant of “sack Dan Andrews".

Others have the slogan emblazoned on t-shirts along with the words "evil dictator" and "no lockdowns".

The latest protest comes as Victoria recorded 1504 new Covid-19 cases and seven deaths on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Queensland’s top police officer has pleaded with protesters to do the "right thing" in preparation for a rally in Brisbane due to begin on Saturday around 3pm local time.

“Disappointingly, we see a minority of people doing the wrong thing here,” Commissioner Katarina Carroll said on Saturday morning.

“So we’ve always taken an approach that we will facilitate protests, if need be, we should certainly support that.

“But what I ask is that people in those protests do the right thing. And it’s always the minority that make it very difficult for us in the public.

"So please do the right thing. Respect the law. And hopefully, in the next few months, we will get back to a little bit more normality.”
