Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced the state government has put $54 million into establishing 26 GP respiratory clinics around the state to help ease the pressure on the healthcare system.
He said the clinics would offer free and immediate treatment for patients with low to moderate symptoms for a range of respiratory conditions including asthma, flu and pneumonia.
Andrews said clinics were aimed to take pressure off of nurses, paramedics and hospitals at a time when the health system was under strain, particularly with COVID-19 and flu outbreaks.
"This is all about the right care in the right place at the right time," he said.
All 26 of the state-funded clinics in Melbourne have already opened this year, while two clinics are set to open in Mildura and Warrnambool in coming months.
With other respiratory clinics funded by the Commonwealth, there will be a total 53 of the clinics established across Victoria.
