Police are investigating a suspected hit-and-run after a man was found dead in the middle of a road in Melbourne’s west during the early hours of Sunday.
It is believed the pedestrian was struck by a car on Boundary Road in Derrimut, between William Angliss Drive and Mt Derrimut Road, just before 3.50am.
Police said the 27-year-old Sunshine West man died at the scene and was later found by a passing driver.
Investigators believe the car involved in the collision was dumped nearby before the driver fled.
The exact circumstances are now being examined by the police Major Collision Investigation Unit.
Police have appealed to those in the area to check their CCTV and dashcam footage between 3.30am and 3.50am on Sunday.
Thirty-one people have been killed on Victoria’s roads this year.
