Families of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies travel to crime scene after investigation breakthrough - Nine Shows

On day seven of an intensive police investigation which has captured the nation's attention, NSW police today confirmed they were "confident" they had recovered the bodies of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.

The major breakthrough came after police say the accused culprit Beau Lamarre-Condon assisted police in divulging the location of the bodies.

After allegedly providing the information about the bodies of Baird, 26 and Davies, 29, this morning, detectives searched a remote property in Bungonia.

It is understood human remains were found at the property in surfboard bags, covered in debris and dumped in a shallow grave along a fence line.

"11am this morning we spoke to the accused in Silverwater Jail," Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

"As a result he provided assistance and was able to provide a location of where Luke and Jesse were.

"This 29 year old acted alone .. he's the sole person involved."

The Bungonia property, 185km south-west of Sydney, was separate to another property 20 minutes away, where police had been focusing their investigation.

Police started searching that Bungonia property on Sunday after information the accused killer cop had been there twice last week.

For two days they searched dams and waterways based on allegations Lamarre-Condon had purchased weights, but came up empty.

Police described feeling "extremely deflated" last night as the search for the pair ticked over one week.

The breakthrough find is a heartbreaking confirmation the pair are dead, but offers some solace for their families, who can finally bring them home.

For members of the NSW Police Force, including deputy commissioner Michael Fitzgerald, it's a crime that hits close to home.

"It has hurt us because it was one of our own," Asst Commissioner Fitzgerald said of the accused man.

"It was an officer who used a police weapon ... It's captured the world's attention, not just Australia's ... It's horrendous and horrific."

It is understood Baird and Davies' families were informed of the discovery and have arrived in the Goulburn area to visit the site.
