Minister says additional resources provided to aged care facility at centre of outbreak
The Aged Care Minister insists staffing support was provided to a Victorian facility at the centre of a major coronavirus outbreak.
It's revealed management's urgent attempts to get more staff on site as the virus spread, with the centre's operator, Heritage Care, saying it was "running on empty, in terms of staff."
"We tried every agency," Heritage Care CEO Greg Reeve told the program.
"We accessed the Government, we informed the Department of Human Services, we informed the public health unit, we informed the (Aged Care) Quality and Safety Commission."
Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck insisted additional resources were provided.
"There were periods of time where the level of staffing wasn't as it should have been," he told News Breakfast.
"But as I said, the entire workforce in Victoria was under severe stress, there were a number of other major outbreaks and our team I can tell you were working diligently around the clock until late at night every day looking for workforce for a number of facilities."
