Melbourne man and Perth woman attempt to escape hotel quarantine
A Melbourne man and a Perth woman have been arrested by police after escaping hotel quarantine.
The man was arrested on Boxing Day after attempting to leave his room without permission, police said.
The 24-year-old was arrested in front of the hotel after he left the room about 2:45pm.
He was "returned to his room without further incident", a police spokesman said.
A spokesman for the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) said the man arrived in Victoria from NSW on December 21 and was placed into hotel quarantine as a Sydney resident.
"The resident was transferred to complex care accommodation last night," a DJCS spokesman said on Sunday morning.
The spokesman said the 24-year-old's movements were "detected immediately" and all quarantine staff who responded were in appropriate personal protective equipment.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old woman accused of escaping hotel quarantine in Perth has been found at a hospital.
She allegedly left the hotel yesterday, only a few days into her mandatory 14 day quarantine period.
The woman is currently in police custody and awaiting charges relating to breaching emergency management laws.
Police say it's unknown if she has COVID-19 and whether there was a risk of community transmission during her escape yesterday.
