VCE, ATAR 2020 results LIVE: Victorian Year 12 students receive end of year results - The Age

Latest updates

We are keen to hear from VCE students who have just received their results.

How did you go with your VCE results and what was it like completing year 12 during such a disrupted year? If you would like to share your story with us for the blog, fill in the box below:

Victorian VCE students can now access their ATAR and their detailed results.

So, what next? A student's ATAR is a good marker of whether they will be able to get into their preferred university course, and for some students the score they received may mean they decide to rethink their course preferences.

This article in our results day liftout today covers what to do next, whether that means seeking advice from a careers counsellor or changing your course preferences.

It is 7am - that means students can now access their ATAR and their VCE results at the official VCAA website: resultsandatar.vic.edu.au

Some students are already reacting on social media, although I am afraid I can't include any updates on the blog at this stage as I haven't been unable to find one just yet with family-friendly language.

More than 46,000 students will shortly receive their four-digit ATAR and their detailed VCE results.

This year, 98.3 per cent of students successfully completed their VCE, up slightly from 98.1 per cent last year.

The average ATAR across all students was 68.14, and there were 38 students who achieved an ATAR of 99.95, the highest possible rank.

Female students had a slightly higher result on average than their male counterparts - the average ATAR for females was 69.45, while for males it was 66.60.

But males dominated those who attained the highest possible rank - of the 38 students who achieved an ATAR of 99.95, 32 were male.

A total of 14,215 students received a study score of 40 or above in at least one subject, putting them in the top 9 per cent in the state.

Study scores are out of 50 and are what students receive for each subject they completed, and these study scores are among the data points used to calculate their ATAR.

In about 20 minutes, more than 46,000 VCE students will be able to view their four-digit ATAR and their detailed subject results.

Here is some information from the results day liftout in today's newspaper on how you can access this information from 7am.

You can receive your VCE results and ATAR in three ways:

  1. Web: Log on to the VCE Results and ATAR website (resultsandatar.vic.edu.au) after 7am on the morning results are released.
  2. App: You can use the Results and ATAR app for Apple or Android devices after 7am on the morning results are released. Download it from the app store on your device.
  3. Mail: Wait for your results to arrive in the mail on Wednesday, Jamuary 6. Please note that only VTAC applicants who have paid all processing fees will receive an ATAR statement in the mail.

The above are joint services providing your VCE results from VCAA and your ATAR from VTAC. If your school has recorded an email address for you, you will also receive your VCE results (but not ATAR) by email.

If you access your results online or using the Results and ATAR app, you will need your VCE student number and results service password.

Good morning and welcome to The Age's live blog for the 2020 VCE Results Day. My name is Craig Butt, and I will be blogging this momentous day for more than 46,000 Year 12s throughout Victoria.

At 7am this morning, the students will receive their four-digit ATAR and their VCE results. For many students, teachers and their parents, it will be a day of celebration after what has been a disrupted year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Age's dedicated education team has extensively covered how this year has played out in schools and homes throughout Victoria, and today we will be keeping track of all the results day news in this live blog. Be sure to send me an email or leave a comment if you have something you would like to share.
