Thousands of year 12 students across Victoria have received their VCE and VCAL results after a year of study interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Victorian Education Department said 50,284 students will graduate with their VCE, and a record 14,529 students will receive their VCAL.
VCE exams finished at the start of December, two weeks later than they were scheduled to finish prior to the pandemic.
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority said 38 students achieved the top score of 99.95, and the overall average score of about 68 was a slight increase on the previous year.
Bentleigh Secondary College student, Dylan, said he was happy with his score after a difficult year of schooling.
"Since it was online it was harder because you couldn't interact with the teachers as well, but we got through it," he said.
Despite not being able to socialise with friends or classmates for much of the year, Dylan said learning from home was not an entirely negative experience.
"You could sleep in until five minutes before the class," he said.
Lucy Skelton, from Melbourne Girls' College, said she logged on right at 7:00am to find out her result, and was delighted with what she achieved.
"I was really nervous, I think even when you work hard and you put it all in, you just can't know how you are going to go," she said.
"So I opened it up and I was like oh my goodness, yay, and my mum's like bawling her eyes out, so a good start to the morning."
Lucy said receiving her VCE result would put to rest what had been a difficult year of lockdown learning.
"It was just tough, and I think at least the way that I was thinking of it was if it's a score that I was happy with I would be like, a great start to 2021, and if it was something I wasn't that happy with, I could say leave it in 2020."
VCAA chief executive, Steve Gniel, said it was important that students kept their results in perspective, and that there were other ways to achieve their career goals if they did not get the score for which they had hoped.
"You've only got to talk to adults that have been through lots of different pathways to know that an ATAR is a moment in time, it's an important moment, it's a stage in your journey, but it's certainly not a final destination," he said.
Mr Gniel said it was a tribute to Victorians that completing the school year was even possible, given the disruption caused by the pandemic.
"Unlike some of our neighbours overseas, we were able to hold our exams, that was thanks to the community, the wearing of masks, the reducing of the numbers meant that we could hold our exams," he said.
