Travelling to SA from regional Victoria but need to go through Greater Melbourne?
Do South Australia's new border restrictions for Greater Melbourne still apply to people transiting through Melbourne from regional Victoria, for the purpose of travel? Thanks for your work!-Country lad
Hey Country lad, I'm holding you personally responsibly for getting Thank God I'm a Country Boy stuck in my head. So cheers for that.
I've had a few questions like this and it's been hard to get to the bottom of it.
If you trawl through the latest Emergency Management Cross Border Travel document (that's number 36 for anyone who's counting), there's a section that addresses this.
It says:
2 The following persons will be taken to be low community transmission zone arrivals
(b) a person whose journey originates in the low community transmission zone and who travels through Victoria, New South Wales or Western Australia to South Australia (other than via Melbourne, Sydney or Perth Airport) if—
(i) they do not stop in a prescribed location; and
(ii) they wear a face mask for the entirety of the time they come into contact with the public and cannot maintain physical distance during their journey through any prescribed location; and
(iii) they travel through any prescribed location via the most direct and practicable route and do not stop in that location except in an emergency or for respite or other essential purposes (such as obtaining petrol);
In this case a "prescribed location" is Greater Melbourne.
Also, it goes without saying that even if you're coming from regional Victoria but you've been in Greater Melbourne at any time on or after 12.01am Thursday, February 4, than you're not permitted to enter.
So even if you're a country lad, you've still got rules to follow.
And on the announcement posted on the SA Government Facebook page, they made it clear you CAN go through a Melbourne Airport but, again, you have to follow a few rules:
People are permitted to transit through Melbourne Airport providing they have been in a Low Community Transmission Zone (ACT, WA-other than a Prohibited Location, NSW-other than a Restricted Location, NT, QLD, TAS and VIC- other than areas mentioned above) for 14 days, have only been in the airport for 2 hours or less and have worn a face mask for the entirety of the time they are in transit including during the flight.
