Police have charged a 36-year-old man with 11 offences over a siege incident at Sunnybank on Brisbane's southside that lasted about 26 hours.
Key points:
- The armed man surrendered to police after more than 24 hours of negotiations
- A woman and three-year-old child have escaped unharmed
- Police said they reached a peaceful resolution after communicating with the man via loudspeaker
Authorities said the armed man had been holed up inside the home with a woman and a three-year-old child who were known to him.
The siege ended about 12:30pm on Friday after the man surrendered without incident to police and was escorted from the area.
A woman and a young boy were also escorted from the house in Dyson Avenue.
Both appeared uninjured and were assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Police said the man was charged this afternoon with 11 offences, including three counts of common assault and deprivation of liberty, one count each of endangering children by exposure, entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, armed robbery, serious assault of a police officer whilst armed, and unlawful possession of a category H weapon.
The 36-year-old, who police said was from Maryborough, is expected to appear before the Brisbane's Magistrates Court on Saturday.
An emergency declaration for the area was revoked about 1:00pm Friday and residents can travel freely and return to their homes in the area.
Police gave little detail during the ordeal and did not reveal what "weapon" the man had been armed with.
Patrol Inspector Michelle Piket thanked the local community for their patience and co-operation over the past 24 hours.
"The community has been brilliant in providing the assistance they did, going about their lives with us interfering."
Police said the man was treated by paramedics at the scene for a pre-existing medical condition
Police, the tactical crime squad and detectives were sent to the scene on Thursday and specialist police worked through the night to negotiate with the man.
It is understood they were trying to communicate with him this morning through a loud speaker.
Paramedics had also been on standby during the incident.
