Two people have been charged after a woman was allegedly locked in a car boot with stab wounds.
Police will allege in court the 24-year-old woman pushed out the vehicle’s tail light before waving her hand through the hole as she was driven down a NSW highway.
An eagle-eyed truck driver called emergency services before the Holden Sedan was pulled over by highway patrol officers at Berrima, south of Sydney, just before noon on Wednesday.
Officers discovered a woman in the boot of the car who had suffered minor stab wounds. She was taken to Liverpool hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Two women, Latia Henderson, 18, and her passenger Kayley Katley, 24, were arrested.
Ms Henderson was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, taking/detaining in company with intent to get advantage – occasioning actual bodily harm, taking and driving conveyance without consent of owner, never licensed to drive a vehicle on road – prior offence.
Ms Ketley was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, taking/detaining in company with intent to get advantage occasioning actual bodily harm, taking and driving conveyance without consent of owner, driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period and drug possession.
Both were refused bail and will appear at Picton Local Court on Thursday.
Police investigating the incident said it could have been “catastrophic” and it’s “lucky nobody was killed”.
Crime Manager of The Hume Police District, Detective Chief Inspector Brendan Bernie, told reporters the victim was stabbed in the knee, thigh and forearm.
She was initially spotted by a truck driver, he said.
“It’s very fortunate we found this lady alive. It could have ended up quite catastrophic for her and it’s fortunate it ended in these circumstances,” he said.
“It’s very rare the police have intercepted it in progress and it’s very lucky nobody was killed.”
Chief Inspector Bernie said it was too early to comment on a possible motive.
An investigation is ongoing.
