Indooroopilly State High School in Brisbane closes after student tests positive for COVID-19 - ABC News

Indooroopilly State High School, in Brisbane's west, will be closed for 48 hours after a student tested positive to COVID-19.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said this morning she understood a student had tested positive for the virus and further tests were being done to ensure it was not a false positive.

"We'll be double checking that it’s not a false positive," she told ABC Radio Brisbane.

"We are told there is no association with any international travel.

"It was very swift action from the Department of Education to close that school."

The school has almost 2,500 students and the acting principal revealed the case in an email to parents overnight.

Acting Executive Principal Derek Weeks said the school would close immediately to allow Queensland Health to perform contact tracing.

Specialist cleaners have also been brought in for a deep clean of the school while it's closed.

"We are continuing to liaise with public health authorities and our own department in relation to the latest developments and will act immediately on their advice should there be an identified need to do so," Mr Weeks wrote in the email.

"The health, safety and welfare of your children, our students, continues to be my number one focus.

"If you, or a member of your family, are feeling unwell or displaying symptoms of COVID-19, please consult your GP.

"I look forward to welcoming our school community back as soon as we are safely able to do so."

The closure comes as 11 local government areas in the state's south east enter another week of mandatory mask wearing.

Meanwhile, there are three outstanding test results from 62 residents at two Brisbane backpackers hostels in the city.

The hostels are in lockdown after a returned traveller who had completed hotel quarantine tested positive while staying there.
