The mother of two Sydney removalists who tested positive to COVID-19 was found dead in the family home on Monday morning.
The body of the woman, aged in her 50s, was found by emergency services at the home in Green Valley in Sydney’s west and she was later confirmed as a COVID-19 case.
Hers is the fifth death in NSW linked to the latest outbreak of COVID-19, driven by the highly contagious Delta variant.
A NSW Police spokesperson said emergency services responded to concerns for the woman’s welfare about 9.15am on Monday. Liverpool police officers went to the home and found her body inside.
The woman’s twin sons, Ramsin and Roni Shawka, are among three removalists who allegedly continued a journey in the state’s Central West last week after being notified they had tested positive to COVID-19.
The men left West Hoxton early on Friday morning, stopping in regional locations including South Bowenfels and Orange. Police allege they continued to Molong after being informed of their test results.
The men were escorted back to Sydney and were instructed to isolate for 14 days.
The Shawka brothers and the third man were charged with failing to comply with the public health orders.
Nine News reported on Monday afternoon that family members, including the twins, were removed from the home and isolated in cars on the street, which was cordoned off as emergency services responded to the death.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, a spokesperson for NSW Health confirmed the woman was a close contact of another COVID-19 case.
“This is the 61st death in NSW related to COVID-19 and the fifth of the current outbreak,” the spokesperson said.
“NSW Health extends its sincere sympathy to her family and friends.”
The police spokesperson said an investigation was under way and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
