Travellers have faced major delays at Melbourne Airport after a security breach early Monday morning.
A passenger's bag containing a laptop accidentally made it through Qantas' domestic terminal security screening without being appropriately checked due to human error about 6.30am.
Qantas domestic flights were then forced to be grounded and security screens were paused to allow airport staff to review CCTV footage to try to identify the passenger before they boarded a plane.
Consequently, huge queues formed at the terminal as flyers were forced to wait about 40 minutes.
"The passengers were delayed for about 45 minutes. All the security gates of Qantas were closed," one passenger told Sunrise.
"All the planes on the tarmac were held and all the planes that were in the air were circling until the security breach was cleared. There were hundreds of people on the other side of security."
The passenger at the centre of the chaos was found and their unchecked bag went through security screening a second time.
Operations then resumed at 6.50am with the security line reopened and departing flights returning to normal.
There were a short number of delays but officials have since said the backlog has cleared.
No other terminals or airlines were affected.
