Man, 37, charged with allegedly abducting girl walking to school in Warnbro - ABC News

Police have charged a 37-year-old man over the alleged abduction of a girl in Warnbro yesterday.

Police say they received reports a child walking to school in the suburb, south of Perth, had been picked up by an unknown vehicle around 8:45am yesterday.

The alert came after a parent saw the child getting into the vehicle in what she believed to be suspicious circumstances.

The girl was found a short time later at a nearby shopping centre in Port Kennedy.

Staff who assisted at the time said they discovered her "crying" and "distressed" at the back entrance of the IGA after she asked them for help.

The girl was taken to Perth Children's Hospital for assessment, where specialist police have been interviewing her to seek her account of the incident.

It is unclear whether the man was known to her.

The 37-year-old Warnbro man is expected to face the Perth Magistrates Court this morning.

More to come.
