The aircraft crashed into the animal shortly after take-off at Brentwood, on the York Peninsula, at 9.20am yesterday, resulting in a man suffering serious injuries.
Both the pilot, a 63-year-old man, and his passenger, a 56-year-old woman, managed to escape the wreckage, though the former was wounded during the ordeal.
He was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and is now in a stable condition.
Speaking to 9news.com.au, SA Police confirmed the animal had to be euthanised overnight.
According to reports the crash occurred on a private airstrip on a rural farming property.
It's understood the light plane had been used for crop dusting.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) will now investigate the incident.
