Support package called vital for Victorian business
Victoria's peak business body says the State Government's business support package is vital for businesses to get through the pandemic.
CEO of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce, Paul Guerra, said the funding was a lifeline for businesses that are unable to reopen for some time under the Government's roadmap out of restrictions.
"There's cash injections there for businesses to hopefully get them through, there's payroll tax deferral as well," he said.
"But importantly, it's a forward-looking opportunity in terms of enabling businesses to start thinking about what they'll need to do when they reopen, particularly around the digital component, as well as the export component as well."
Hospitality businesses have also welcomed the Government's support package, but the state's peak hotels body says regional businesses should be allowed to reopen sooner than planned.
David Canny, president of the Victorian branch of the Australian Hotels Association, said many businesses were more than 100 kilometres from any active COVID-19 case.
"Our eyes are still very firmly focused on reopening and doing so in a safe manner, and we look forward to some announcements hopefully that regional Victoria can lead the way here," he said.
"So we welcome the assistance package that goes a small way to the pain that our members, our hoteliers have been feeling since mid-March."
