Police have charged a Brisbane doctor with allegedly trafficking steroids, Valium and other prescription drugs to outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Key points:
- A 52-year-old Brisbane doctor is accused of supplying drugs to bikie members from various gangs
- Police allege he supplied drugs without a prescription for them to on-sell and make a profit
- Police conducted a series of raids across Brisbane, uncovering more than $300,000 in cash
It comes after detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group executed search warrants across Brisbane, including at two medical practices in Chermside and Fortitude Valley.
The search warrants resulted in large amounts of prescription drugs and large sums of cash being seized.
Detective Inspector Larissa Miller said a 52-year-old man was charged with three counts of trafficking dangerous drugs and 155 counts of supply dangerous drugs.
"During the search, police identified and seized items including steroids, prescription drugs and more than $300,000 cash," Detective Inspector Miller said.
"We will allege that this doctor supplied dangerous drugs without a prescription.
"We will allege that this doctor acted as a professional facilitator, selling these drugs directly to OMCG [Outlaw Motorcycle Club Gang] members for them to on-sell and make a profit."
'An incredibly serious breach of trust'
Detective Inspector Miller said the alleged crimes were "an incredibly serious breach of trust".
"Improper use of medication can cause a number of dangerous and lasting impacts on the user's health, from violent side-effects to damaged organs," she said.
"[This] has widespread implications for society.
Police will allege more than one bikie gang was paying cash for the drugs.
"The street value of prescription drugs is sometimes 10 to 20 times what the actual retail price is," Detective Inspector Miller said.
The 52-year-old doctor is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
