Long lines at Mona Vale Hospital COVID clinic after two mystery cases confirmed - ABC News

Long lines of people are queuing outside a COVID-19 testing clinic in Sydney's Northern Beaches after two mystery cases were confirmed yesterday.

NSW Health confirmed yesterday that the infected people are a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s who are close contacts of each other.

But the source of the pair's infections is still unknown.

One Avalon woman said she was at Woolworths at the same time as one of the infected people, but said she wasn't worried

"I don't feel sick or anything but it's a formality," she said.

She said she frequently commuted into the city and was surprised that cases had popped up in Avalon, about 37 kilometres from the CBD.

"I will be interested to find out the result of why it happened," she said.

A man, also from Avalon, said it was the third test he had undertaken at the Mona Vale clinic, but felt it was an important precautionary step.

"We heard there was a hotspot in Avalon... my wife has been to some of the locations where the people who tested positive have been," he said.

"We are over 70 and we are concerned."

Several people waiting in line to get tested at Mona Vale Hospital said they queued up last night but were turned away when the clinic closed.

The two positive cases on the Northern Beaches visited a several places while infectious.

NSW Health said everyone living in the Northern Beaches area should monitor for symptoms and come forward for testing immediately if they appear.

Yesterday's two cases in Sydney's north came just hours after a van driver who transports international airline staff to Sydney Airport tested positive for the virus.

However there is no suggestion the infection are linked.

The three cases came after a prolonged period of almost no coronavirus cases in NSW.

There have been just two local cases of coronavirus since November 7
