A delicate retrieval operation is underway in the Blue Mountains for the body of a hiker who died in a rock fall on Saturday.
The man, 60, was with a group of hikers in remote bushland near Wentworth Falls when he was injured by a falling rock at around 2.45pm.
Officers attached to Police Rescue and NSW Ambulance’s special operations unit began a rescue operation but the man was confirmed dead at the scene.
Seven other people were assisted to safety.
Crews were unable to reach the man’s body on Saturday afternoon due to the rugged terrain. The retrieval operation was postponed until first light on Sunday.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
