Second person linked to the Brisbane Portuguese Family Centre tests positive to COVID-19 - ABC News

A second person linked to the Brisbane Portuguese Family Centre has contracted COVID-19.

The 62-year-old man, who was at the Ellen Grove restaurant in Brisbane's south-west on Saturday, told the ABC he returned a positive test result on Wednesday night.

He was identified as a close contact of a woman who flew into Australia from Portugal and visited the restaurant while unknowingly infectious.

The man told the ABC he has been in isolation and alerted health authorities when he developed symptoms yesterday

He is being treated at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The man said his wife had tested negative to COVID-19 but will be retested.

The new infection is the second case of community transmission linked to the exposure site, with another man who visited the Portuguese Family Centre testing positive earlier in the week.

It comes after the woman flew into Queensland on an Emirates flight and tested positive to the virus after undergoing 14 days of hotel quarantine.

The woman, who had plans to work as a cabin crew member for other airlines, returned a positive result for the Alpha variant last weekened after routine airline testing.

She had visited Brisbane's DFO shopping centre, the CBD and the Portuguese restaurant while infectious, prompting authorities to declare a series of venues exposure sites.

Queensland Health will provide a further update of cases later this morning.
