Victoria records zero locally acquired COVID-19 cases - ABC News

Victoria has recorded zero new locally acquired cases of the COVID-19 virus and two new cases acquired in hotel quarantine.

The result was detected from among 19,502 test results processed on Saturday.

More Victorians rolled up their sleeves to get the jab, with more than 12,000 vaccines administrated in the state.

Yesterday, Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said he was "optimistic" about the trajectory of the state's COVID-19 outbreak, as negative test results come in for dozens of quarantined primary close contacts.

The state recorded just one locally acquired case of the virus on Friday, which Professor Sutton said was in a person who lived in the same household as an existing case from the Arcare Maidstone aged care home outbreak.

He said people might still return a positive test on day 13, but since they were already in quarantine, there would be no new exposure sites.

Professor Sutton warned the virus was "absolutely still out there" and urged Victorians to abide by the new restrictions, including wearing masks indoors and checking in with QR codes.

But he said he was "optimistic" that Victoria was on track for a further easing of restrictions after 11:59pm Thursday.

"It's looking pretty good in Victoria at the moment," he said.

Adblock test (Why?)
