Industrial fire in Melbourne's west under control, crews remain at scene - ABC News
More than 70 fire crews have worked to contain an industrial fire in Laverton North in Melbourne's west.
Fire Rescue Victoria said the fire broke out just before 2pm on Plummer Road and 20 people were evacuated from the site — nobody was injured.
The blaze was contained to a large pile of scrap metal materials within a matter of hours.
Fire Rescue Victoria said there was no immediate threat to the community, but urged residents of Laverton North and surrounding suburbs to steer clear of the area and be wary of smoke in the air.
The fire will continue to burn throughout the night, with crews remaining on scene to monitor the smoke plumes.
