Melbourne tobacco store destroyed by fire in third attack in days - 9News

Another Melbourne tobacco store has been set alight in a third suspected arson attack on tobacco stores in the city since Thursday.

The Craigieburn shop, in Melbourne's north, has been completely destroyed by fire after the incident around 3.30am today at the intersection of Smeaton Court and Bridgewater Road.

Police are investigating if the fire is linked to the intense tobacco war in the state.

More than 30 tobacco stores have been torched since last March, in an ongoing war between two rival Melbourne crime gangs for control of the illegal tobacco trade.

Multiple explosions rang out from inside the store after it went up in flames.

Firefighters were unable to enter the complex and fought the blaze from above as it threatened nearby homes.

Officers have cordoned off the area and a crime scene has been established.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area or anyone with information.
