Residents north of Perth warned it's too late to leave as bushfires continue to rage - 9News

Residents north of Perth are today being told it is too late to leave and to take shelter now, as an emergency level bushfire continues to burn

More than 200 firefighters have been battling to contain three large bushfires in parts of the Chittering region, less than an hour north of Perth.

Towns including Gingin, Bindoon and Lennard Brook are under an emergency warning, with authorities saying there's an immediate threat to lives and homes, So far one home in Bindoon has been lost to the flames.

"You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive," the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services said.

"There is a threat to lives and homes."

Crews have been facing challenging conditions, with storms and a heat trough driving extreme fire weather.

Fires in the area have already burnt through 2600 hectares of land, after emergency warnings were issued on Saturday.

Authorities are warning dangerous conditions are likely to continue for the coming days as heatwave conditions continue.

"Despite difficult weather and terrain, crews have made excellent progress slowing the blazes, but we're not out of the woods yet, with the trough expected to linger for several days with hot, dry and windy conditions," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on social media.

WA residents have been sweltering under temperatures in the high 30s and early 40s and the extreme conditions are expected to continue into this week.

Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Far North Queensland has been cancelled, but the Bureau of Meteorology is warning the threat is not entirely gone.

A monsoon trough could bring more heavy rain impacting regions including Cairns and Cape York.
