The home at Barnards Avenue in Hurstville suffered external damage, with the glass windows blown out, after the incident overnight.
Emergency services were called to the property just after midnight following reports about a car fire.
New South Wales Fire and Rescue said six crews attended the incident.
They extinguished the blaze after about 20 minutes but the car - a luxury Mercedes convertible car worth about $300,000 - was destroyed.
Other vehicles parked near the property were also damaged.
Neighbouring properties were safely evacuated and no was one injured.
Police said today a crime scene has been set up and officers have begun an investigation into how the fire started.
A fire at the home occurred only last week, reports say.
Officers have been at the property since early today.
Detectives have seized several items of interest, including large bags, 9News reports.
