A person linked to a "neo-Nazi demonstration" held in Sydney hired a scout hall for members of the group to gather, claiming it was for "a family-friendly event".
Key points:
- Scouts NSW said the North Turramurra hall was booked by an individual over the weekend
- Police spoke with a number of men "near a public hall" about 7pm on Saturday and issued a Public Safety Order
- A booking enquiry said the space would be used for a "casual 30th birthday party"
About 61 men from the National Socialist Network first met on Australia Day and were intercepted by police at the nearby North Sydney train station while heading towards the CBD.
The men moved to St Peters Park after leaving the station where they started chanting racial slurs and making anti-vaccination comments.
On Saturday evening, police dismantled a gathering in North Turramurra and police said they spoke with a number of men at about 7pm "near a public hall" in the suburb.
The group was served an updated Public Safety Order, which restricted their movements in the city, that lasted until midnight on Sunday.
They later dispersed and no arrests were made.
'It would be a family-friendly event'
A spokesperson for Scouts NSW said bookings for the North Turramurra Scout Hall are "managed online" and the hall was "hired by an individual" for an event on the weekend.
They would not reveal the hirer's name for privacy reasons.
In the booking form provided to the ABC, the person requested to hire the hall for 12 hours last weekend for a "combined casual 30th birthday party and belated Australia day weekend get-together with friends".
"There will be no alcohol, and the average age of attendees will be around 30, and many will have young children," the booking details said.
"It would be a family-friendly event. We plan to have a BBQ outside (we would bring our own) and social gathering, and the kids can run around etc.
"We will clean up after ourselves and leave the hall in pristine condition. "
The spokesperson said a Scouts representative met with what appeared to be a husband and wife with a child and collected the key to the hall about 8pm that night, oblivious to what the gathering had been about.
The booking message was sent in advance last year through a contact page on their website.
The men later met on Sunday morning at Artarmon Reserve, prompting another police operation.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said condemned the "Neo-Nazi demonstration" in Sydney on Friday and said there had been a rise in "Neo-Nazi activity and extreme right-wing activity" recently in Australia.
Police said on Friday 54 rail infringement notices were issued for offensive behaviour.
